Senior Accountant / Controller

Part-time Remote Path to Full-time

The Role

We're hiring a Senior Accountant / Controller to lead the monthly close and management reporting function across a portfolio of startup and growth-stage clients. You'll own accuracy, reporting rigor, and the delivery standards that everything downstream depends on — partnering directly with the Founder on client-facing advisory work.

This is a full-time, fully remote role with senior-level responsibility. You'll have direct client relationships, influence over how the firm delivers, and a visible path into broader leadership as the firm grows.

What You'll Do

  • Own the monthly close across a portfolio of client engagements — review reconciliations, journal entries, and financial statements; ensure accuracy and audit-ready documentation.
  • Prepare or review monthly management reporting packages, including KPI dashboards, variance commentary, and cash flow tracking.
  • Partner with the Founder on technical accounting matters, cash forecasting, capital-raising support, and client advisory work.
  • Design and implement chart-of-accounts structures, closing calendars, and reporting frameworks during new client onboarding.
  • Review junior work, coach team members, and help build the standards that the firm operates on as it scales.
  • Manage direct client relationships with founders and leadership teams — explain results, flag risks, and frame decisions clearly.

What You Bring

  • Minimum 7 years of accounting or controllership experience, with exposure to multiple clients, business units, or reporting entities.
  • CPA designation with strong technical foundation in ASPE and familiarity with IFRS.
  • Proven track record owning monthly close and management reporting end-to-end.
  • Strong working knowledge of QuickBooks Online and/or other ERP systems and comfort managing multi-client environments.
  • Solid grasp of Canadian tax compliance — corporate tax, GST/HST/QST, and payroll-related filings.
  • High organizational standards and the ability to work independently in a remote, async environment.
  • Clear written communication — you can brief founders and boards concisely and without jargon.

Nice to Have

  • Prior experience at a fractional CFO firm, outsourced accounting firm, or multi-entity startup.
  • Experience with SaaS or tech-sector financial metrics (ARR, net revenue retention, unit economics).
  • French language proficiency for working with Quebec-based clients.
  • Familiarity with budgeting, FP&A, or consolidation tools.
  • Experience supporting financing rounds, due diligence processes, or M&A transactions.
